National Journalism Excellence Awards
- The National Excellence in Journalism Awards (NEJA) was launched in 2016 as a flagship event of the World Press Freedom Day commemorations. The Awards is the highest national honour in journalism and celebrates high-impact stories in various fields of reporting.
- The competition is open to all Gambian journalists working in print, radio, television and online.
The details of the 2020 Awards will be announced soon.
The main objective is to improve the standards and status of journalism in a country where the role of journalism in promoting democracy and development is underplayed. Through the award, we recognize and reward journalists whose work of excellence influence positive change.
The competition has an Honorary Award component. Previously called GPU President’s Award, the Press Freedom Champions goes to individuals and institutions who have demonstrably contributed significantly to the freedom and development of the media industry.
