The Gambia Press Union on 25th January 2021 received a donation of 60,000 disposable facemasks from Ida Bass Kidney Foundation through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

The masks are meant to be distributed among media houses and journalists across the country.

The donation will further help journalists to go about their work on informing people about Covid-19 while protecting themselves from contracting the virus.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony at the Central Medical Store in Kotu, Muhammed S. Bah GPU Vice President, thanked the foundation for the kind gesture.

“GPU appreciates the fact that the Ida Bass Foundation has prioritized journalists and media workers in their donation,” he said.

“I wish to inform the public that these facemasks will be distributed to various media houses both print, electronic and online,” he added.

The Ida Bass Kidney Foundation was founded in 2013 by Sailey Fladsrud following the diagnosis of her mother Ida Bass with end-stage renal disease in The Gambia. The charitable foundation has since been working with the ministry of health to improve kidney care in the country. It also developed new services and improved the outcomes for the people with kidney disease.
