STAKEHOLDERS REVIEW DRAFT ROADMAP FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT, 2021


Today, the GPU, Ministry of Information, CSO Coalition on ATI and various stakeholders from civil society, academia, the private sector and the media, began a two-day Review and Validation of the Draft National Roadmap for the Implementation of the Access to Information Act, 2021.
The Gambia joined other West African peers into adopting an access to information legislation through the National Assembly in July 2021, which was assented to by the President of the Republic in August last year.

PRESS STATEMENT: GPU Urges GRTS to Rescind Directive Censoring Coverage of Industrial Action

Fajara, September 16, 2022: The Gambia Press Union is concerned by the Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS)’s act of censorship in an editorial policy update which seeks to ignore voices of people and organisations calling for better working conditions.


The memo, signed by the Director General of GRTS, Malick Jeng, and dated 12th September, 2022, orders all staff of the News and Current Affairs Department to cease providing a platform to all organisers of industrial action in all sectors.

Gambia: Independent Regulator Engages Media on Rising Ethical Concerns

The Media Council of The Gambia (MCG) in collaboration with the Gambia Press Union (GPU), with funding from Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), over the weekend engaged media managers and editors in a forum on media ethics.


The August 26 and 27, 2022 engagements held at the Baobab Hotel in Bijilo were attended by 30 media managers and editors from the mix of mass media.
